Get the Most Out of Your Septic System: Repair vs. Replace Solutions

Get-the-Most-Out-of-Your-Septic-System--Repair-vs-Replace-Solutions

Living in a beautiful area like Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Rexburg, or Twin Falls often comes with the perk of having a spacious property. But with that extra space comes the responsibility of maintaining a septic system. Unlike their municipal sewer counterparts, septic systems require more TLC to keep them functioning smoothly. Regular septic system maintenance and prompt action when problems arise, are key to ensuring your septic system lasts decades.

Top Five Factors To Keep In Mind When Choosing an RV Pumping Company

While MVP Rentals doesn’t offer RV pumping services, including this section in your blog post is a great idea since it caters to a local audience and positions you as a helpful resource. Here are some of the factors to consider when choosing an RV pumping company:

Licensing and Insurance

When choosing an RV pumping company, prioritize companies with valid licenses and insurance in your area. This serves two important purposes. Firstly, a license verifies the company’s legitimacy and adherence to local regulations. It ensures the technicians possess the necessary skills and qualifications for proper septic system handling. Secondly, insurance safeguards you financially. In case of unforeseen accidents or property damage during the septic tank pumping process, the company’s insurance will cover the septic system costs, giving you peace of mind. Before finalizing your choice, ask for proof of licensing and insurance documentation.

Experience

Experience is a valuable asset when selecting an RV pumping company. A company with a proven track record in the industry indicates its familiarity with various septic system types and potential septic tank issues. They’ll have the expertise to handle your specific RV pumping needs efficiently. Ask about the company’s experience level and inquire about similar jobs they’ve undertaken in the past. Positive reviews from happy customers can further solidify their credibility.

Equipment

The proper equipment is paramount for safe and effective RV septic system pumping. A reputable company will have access to well-maintained equipment specifically designed for RV septic systems. This might include dedicated vacuum trucks with sufficient hose length to reach your RV comfortably. Additionally, they may utilize specialized tools for inspecting and cleaning clogged drain lines, ensuring a thorough job. Be bold and inquire about the equipment the company uses for RV pumping to ensure they have the tools for a smooth and successful operation.

Customer Service

Responsive and professional customer service is a key indicator of a company that values its clients. Choose a company that readily addresses your questions and concerns regarding the RV pumping process. They should be able to explain the procedure clearly, answer your inquiries patiently, and provide transparent pricing information. Furthermore, look for companies that offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate your needs. Excellent customer service fosters trust and ensures a positive experience throughout the process.

Price

While septic system cost is a factor, it shouldn’t be the sole deciding element. Get quotes from several RV pumping companies in your area to compare pricing structures. Be sure the quotes detail the services included, such as septic tank pumping, basic drain line cleaning (if offered), and disposal fees. The most affordable option might only sometimes be the best. Consider the above factors – experience, equipment, and customer service – when evaluating quotes. A slightly higher price may translate to a more comprehensive, efficient, and hassle-free service.

Understanding Septic System Problems

The first step to solving any septic system problem is understanding the root cause. Here are some common signs that your septic system may need attention:

  • Slow Drains are often the first sign of a problem. If your drains are draining slowly, it could be because the septic tank is full or the drainfield is clogged.
  • Sewage Backups: If your sewage is backing up into the drains or toilets, it’s a sign of a serious problem.
  • Strong Odors: Septic systems shouldn’t produce strong odors. If you notice a sewage smell around your property, it could be a sign of a leak or clog.
  • Lush Green Grass Over the Drainfield: The drainfield is part of the septic system that treats wastewater. If the grass over the drainfield is much greener than the rest of the lawn, it could be a sign that the drainfield is clogged.

Repair vs. Replace: Weighing Your Options

Once you’ve identified the problem with your septic system, you must decide whether to repair or replace it. Here are some factors to consider:

  • The severity of the Problem: Minor problems, such as a clogged drain line, can often be repaired relatively easily. However, more serious problems, such as a collapsed septic tank, may require replacement.
  • Age of the Septic System: Septic systems typically last 20-30 years. If yours is nearing the end of its lifespan, it may be wise and cost-effective to replace it rather than repair it.
  • Your Budget: Septic system repairs can range in price depending on the condition of your septic system.

Septic System Repair

Several different repair options are available if your septic system can be repaired. The specific repair will depend on the nature of the problem. Common septic system repairs include:

  • Pumping the Septic Tank: This routine maintenance procedure should be performed every 3-5 years.
  • Cleaning or Replacing the Drainfield: The drainfield is part of the septic system that treats wastewater. The drainfield may need to be cleaned or replaced if it is a clogged septic system.
  • Repairing Leaks: Leaks in the septic tank or drain lines can allow untreated wastewater to escape into the soil. To prevent contamination, leaks should be repaired as soon as possible.

Septic System Replacement

If your septic system needs to be replaced, the process will typically involve:

  • Obtaining a Permit: You must get a permit from your local health department before replacing your septic system.
  • Hiring a Qualified Contractor: It is important to hire a qualified contractor to replace your septic system. The contractor must be familiar with the local codes and regulations.
  • Installing the New System: The new septic system will be installed per the manufacturer’s specifications.

Making the Right Decision

The decision of whether to repair or replace your septic system is a complex one. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The best course of action for you will depend on the specific circumstances of your situation. Here’s where MVP Rentals can be a valuable resource. Maximizing Septic System Lifespan

You can do several things to extend the lifespan of a septic system and avoid costly repairs or replacements down the road. Here are some tips:

  • Have your Septic Tank Pumped Regularly: Septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years. This can prevent solids from building up and clogging the failing drainfield.
  • Don’t Put anything down the Drain. This includes grease, coffee grounds, eggshells, and other items that can clog drain lines.
  • Be Mindful of What You Flush. Only flush toilet paper and human waste. Materials like feminine hygiene products, disposable wipes, and dental floss can clog the septic system.
  • Don’t Overload the System: Avoid doing laundry or running the dishwasher for extended periods. This can overwhelm the septic system and lead to backups.
  • Conserve Water: The less water you use, the less stress you put on your septic system. Consider installing water-efficient appliances and fixtures.
  • Plant the Right Things Over the Drainfield: Avoid planting trees with invasive root systems over the drainfield. These roots can damage the drain lines.

MVP has very friendly staff. Their customer service is a 5 star. We usually get to work with this company every summer. I highly recommend. We have never been disappointed. We have needed the portable toilets moved in the past to sightly different areas then what they were placed. They have always been more than happy to make sure that we were accommodated and they were placed where we needed them. They keep the units super clean and stocked. They always go above and beyond. Love this company. Thank you all so much for all you do!!!!

DO NOT USE this service. This company came to do a routine septic system drain on RV and the technician blew raw sewage from a previous job into my property. This blew my lines, septic system and under belly full of human feces from another dump job. Multiple attempts with the owner to report and reconcile were made and ultimately no solution was offered. Liability and responsibility were solely on this company and human feces were blowing out of the roof and underbelly of a like new toy hauler. All employees admitted fault but ultimately the owner refuses to cover damage. DO NOT USE this company.
